How Much Does Drain Relining Cost?

Drain relining costs can vary because the work depends on the condition of the pipe, the length of drain being repaired, the access available and the preparation needed before the liner can be installed. A small localised patch repair is very different from relining a longer drainage run affected by cracks, open joints, root ingress or old pipe materials.

Drain Division provides professional drain relining services for domestic and commercial properties. Relining can sometimes repair damaged pipework without digging up the full drain, but it is only suitable when the pipe is in the right condition for an internal repair.

What Affects Drain Relining Prices?

Drain relining costs can vary depending on:

  • How much of the pipework needs to be relined
  • Whether a patch repair or longer liner is needed
  • The depth, location and access to the affected drain
  • Whether a CCTV drain survey is needed before the repair is planned
  • Whether the pipe needs clearing, cleaning or drain jetting before relining
  • Whether the drain is affected by root ingress, cracks or displaced joints
  • Whether the pipe is clay, pitch fibre or another older drainage material
  • Whether the pipe is still suitable for relining or needs excavation instead

Drain relining is often considered when a drain is damaged but has not fully collapsed. It may be suitable for cracks, leaks, open joints and certain localised defects, but it is not always the right option for pipework that has lost shape, collapsed or become severely displaced.

When the Cost May Increase

The cost may be higher if the affected drain is difficult to reach, if several sections need repair, if the pipe needs significant preparation, or if root growth, scale, silt or debris must be removed before lining. Costs can also increase if CCTV inspection shows that the drain needs more than one repair method.

If the pipe has fully collapsed, collapsed drain investigation and more direct drain repairs may be needed. If pitch fibre pipework is involved, pitch fibre pipe repair or replacement may need to be considered separately.

Because every drainage issue is different, Drain Division does not use this page to give one fixed price for every drain relining job. For a clearer idea of likely cost, contact us with details of the problem, whether you have CCTV footage or a report, how often the drain blocks and where the affected pipework is located.

Drain Relining Cost FAQs

Why do drain relining quotes vary so much?

Drain relining quotes vary because the cost depends on the length of pipe being repaired, the liner type, the preparation required, the access available and the condition of the existing pipework. A small patch repair is very different from relining a longer or more damaged section.

Is drain relining cheaper than digging up the drain?

Drain relining can sometimes be more cost-effective and less disruptive than excavation, especially where digging would affect paving, driveways, gardens or internal floors. However, it is not always cheaper or suitable in every situation, particularly if the pipe has fully collapsed.

When is drain relining not suitable?

Drain relining may not be suitable if the pipe has lost its shape, fully collapsed, become badly displaced or cannot be cleaned and prepared properly. In those cases, excavation, replacement or another repair method may be needed.

Do I need a CCTV drain survey before relining?

A CCTV drain survey is usually important before relining because it shows the location, type and extent of the damage. It also helps confirm whether relining is suitable or whether the pipe needs a different repair method.

Should I ask to see the CCTV footage before agreeing to relining?

Yes. CCTV footage, still images and a clear explanation can help you understand what defect has been found, where it is located, and why relining has been recommended rather than simple clearance or excavation.

Can relining stop tree roots coming back?

Drain relining can help seal certain cracks, joints or defects where roots have entered, but the pipe needs to be suitable for lining first. Roots may need to be removed and the pipe cleaned before any repair can be completed.

Is pitch fibre drain relining different?

Pitch fibre pipework can become deformed or blistered, so the preparation and repair method may be different from standard pipe relining. In some cases, rerounding, relining or replacement may need to be considered depending on the condition of the pipe.

Should I get a second quote for drain relining?

For larger relining work, a second quote can be useful. Make sure each quote is based on the same CCTV evidence, pipe length, repair method and level of preparation, otherwise the prices may not be directly comparable.

Will insurance cover drain relining?

Insurance cover depends on the policy, the cause of the damage and the evidence available. CCTV footage, photographs, written findings and repair quotes may be useful if you need to speak to your insurer. Drain Division can help identify the drainage issue, but your insurer will confirm cover.

Can I just keep jetting the drain instead of relining it?

Drain jetting can clear blockages and improve flow, but it will not repair cracks, open joints, root entry points or damaged pipework. If the same drain keeps blocking because of a defect, relining or another repair method may be needed.

How can I get a clearer drain relining price?

It helps to explain what symptoms you have, whether the drain has blocked before, whether you already have CCTV footage or a report, where the affected pipework is located, and whether the drain is under grass, paving, concrete, a driveway or another hard-to-access area.
